What is Happening to Women in the Democratic Republic of Congo?


The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)  is a place where sexual violence is being raged on women’s bodies as a weapon of war and destroying families and whole communities.

  • Since 1996, more than 200,000 people have been victims of rape in the country.
  •  Sixty-five percent of them are estimated to be children.
  • Thousands of women have suffered a traumatic fistula- a tear in the vaginal wall that causes incontinence and makes childbirth nearly impossible.
  • Life Expectancy female – 55yrs
  • Life Expectancy male-52 yrs
