" I hope this card will have beyond my understanding an effect on a beautiful person and make them realize that they are special and unique and loved." TP participant

Haiti Gallery
Haiti Through Our Eyes Project. Together with Meridian Health Foundation, Full- Circle Learning and the United Nations, we delivered 80 cards from Rwanda and the US to Haiti in June 2011 and distributed them as gifts of celebration, connection and love. Included in this portfolio are the cards that Haitian girls made and returned to the US.

Niger Gallery
I am so proud to have received 24 handmade postcards from young women in Kiota, Niger. The cards are cut from cardboard and covered with beautiful African fabric. Each card has an expression of hope and support for the women of the Congo. All their cards were sent to the City of Joy.

Afghanistan Gallery
Art for Afghanistan is a project that brings voice, visibility and art classes to rural Afghan women and their children. Over 250 cards were made in the US and Canada and hand delivered by Trust in Education and Zohra Aziz to her community in Farza. We are currently collecting cards to send to women in Afghan shelters.

Uganda Gallery
These postcards were lovingly made by students who participate in the In Movement program in Kampala. In Movement brings social change through the arts to disadvantage youth and orphans in Uganda. All their cards were delivered to women living in the City of Joy, Congo.

North America Gallery
So many of our postcards have come from the States — California, West Virginia, and New Jersey to name just a few. Almost all the cards have been sent to the Congo, Costa Rica, Afghanistan, Malawi and Ethiopia. Postcards are always being updated, so if you do not see yours here now, keep looking!

Kenya Gallery
Lisa Rodondi traveled from California to Daraja Academy in Kenya with over 80 cards from Marin Catholic High School students. The Daraja girls are top students and leaders in their communities, but would normally not be able to finish their academic studies due to extreme poverty. Thanks to Daraja Academy they are able to attend school full time and were thrilled to receive such heart warming messages from their peers in the US. They returned the favor by sending these postcards back.

Malawi Gallery
Voice Flame Writers International brought over 70 cards to Malawi, Africa to share with the women in Tukombo village. JFK University in Pleasant Hill, CA held the first of three Traveling Postcards events on December 3rd, 2008. All staff, students and faculty were invited to participate in making a postcard for the women of Malawi. I photographed groups of good friends and several women brought old photos from home to honor loved ones who could not be present. Over the next several months, postcards were made on all three campuses and with several smaller groups of women in surrounding communities. All were sent on their way in Spring of 2009.

Congo Gallery
100+ postcards were made for the women in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Traveling Postcards joined with Eve Ensler’s V-DAY campaign to help stop the violence in the Congo. All the cards were brought to Bukavu to women living in the newly constructed “City of Joy”. These grandmothers, mothers and young girls, have suffered yet survived, horrible sexual violence. V-DAY and UNICEF have partnered together to created The City of Joy as a safe and healing place to live and to be trained to become the new leaders in their communities.

STAND! Against Domestic Violence Gallery
Over the last several years we have worked within the STAND! community, sharing voices from women who have experienced domestic violence and who are willing to share their resiliency and courage with other women who may be in similar circumstances. Every written word or piece of fabric, ribbon or button that is placed on a card, presents the opportunity to express a personal choice and make a decision free from critique.

Gallery of Voices
Traveling Postcards visited several US transitional housing facilities and support groups for survivors of domestic violence. We collected photos, postcards and words of solidarity and strength from each workshop participant. Each woman is fighting for her children, for her family, and for her right to live her life free of violence. I was overwhelmed by the compassion, love and resiliency that was in the room each time postcards were made and received! Every woman chose to have either her hands or eyes photographed, knowing that the picture would stand next to her postcard in this gallery. The Gallery of Voices exhibition hopes to provide support and wisdom for all of us who have been affected by domestic violence and connect anyone who needs help to voices of compassion.
